Re: Welcome
Dear GRL: My name is Peter Loewer and I'm a writer of natural history and
gardening books plus a botanical illustrator and graphic artist. It's hard
to believe but since 1973, I've written and illustrated some 25 books plus
three children's books dealing with nature. "The Wild Gardener" was chosen
by the American Horticultural Society as one of the best 75 garden books of
the Twentieth Century. I maintain a Website at www.thewildgardener.com plus
write a newspaper column for a local paper, do movie reviews at
www.main.nc.us and have a local Public Radio show on WCQS in Asheville, NC,
called The Wild Gardener. I'm delighted to have found this list because most
of the members seem to be literate and knowledgeable. I'm also happy to
announce that after Macmillan died and killed my book "The Evening Garden,"
Timber Press has now released it in paperback and they are (at least to me),
the exception to the general rule of most publishers not caring a fig about
anything except profits. From all these years in publishing, I have to admit
that this is probably the worst time in the history of writing books that
I've aware of (these remarks limited to the USA). I'm reminded of Mark
Twain's statement when asked how to find a publisher: "You take and idiot
man and marry him to an idiot woman, interbreed their progeny for three
generations and, with luck, you might find a good publisher." Best, Peter
