I entirely agree with Lon, if there's to be a GWL website let's make it exactly that - a service for garden writers. I've caught up with all the postings on the potential website in one burst and seen the idea quickly balloon from the original notion of simply helping writers to become a commercial dotcom answering Q&As from readers and attempting all sorts of other things none of us have time to do.
There's no doubt that a good website takes a great deal of work and I wonder if the time has not again come to initiate some discussion with the GWA whose website attempts to do (or should be doing) many of the things which have been suggested for the GWL site. None of us can afford the time to duplicate effort.
And please... a commercial website run by writers which doesn't pay its writers?! I know there are many people on this list, and in the GWA, who do not need to make a living from writing but the very suggestion of a commercial site not paying for web work will fuel the fire of rights grabs, declining rates, and demands for extra rights with no extra fees. Many of us have been fighting this battle since the web was invented. The very suggestion that we simply give up is seriously damaging.
