Don't fall for the idea that there is anything right about selectively killing insects, fungi, bacteria etc. with chemicals. When a gardener does this, he or she has to do the job of the missing link(s) in the soil foodweb and doing so not only is more work, but usually results in use of more icides with more missing links and more work ad nuseum!


Just a thought here, perhaps a bit of the metaphysical. (I'm not looking at it from a safety to humans and other organisms viewpoint.)
What's the difference between selectively killing all the grubs, in this case Japanese Beetle, with an "icide" or a nematode? If we use a non-chemical "icide" to manipulate our gardening environments arern't we acheiving the same results?
