My thought was to transfer the images to "floppies" since I don't have a CD burner. Would that still work?

Jo Ellen is right about the file sizes. Your floppies are not big enough to handle many images and the process of saving them to floppies will drive you up a wall.

I suggest you purchase a DVD burner, rather than a CD burner as DVDs hold significantly more information than CDs, which means you can put far more photos onto a DVD than onto a CD.
