This coming spring the USDA Forest Service is joining with the City of Boston School Dept. to give kids a first hand experience with grounds maintenance operations on private and public property. The idea is that children growing up in dense urban neighborhoods are not intimately familiar with the natural world and so don't think of careers in the natural world.
It has been difficult lately to find youngsters who want to work in city parks, golf courses, college campuses, state forests etc. While we still build tractors, finding people who want to run them is getting to be a challenge.
