Re: How ya gonna keep 'em down on the nursery?


Refining the original question a wee bit:
I will assume that almost everyone on this list is a garden writer and that most of us write columns- along with books, articles, etc.

What do you do, in your columns, to promote the trade? Do you write about training programmes, college courses, apprenticeships etc.?

I try to devote 3 or 4 columns a year on education and training focussing on the teachers, parents, and guidance counsellors who, I hope, are gardens reading my column.
I also try to do a few on expectations- what a homeowner can expect from a landscaper/designer/installer/gardener etc. I even write a few from the nursry/garden centre's workers' point of view.

Don't get me wrong, I thoughroughly enjoy writng about the plants, techniques, philosophies, people etc: but, I think we are in a special position of seeing all elements of the gardening industry and it should be part of our raison d'etre to introduce our readers to the whole picture.
