Private archives

While the ibiblio archives for this list are private and can only be accessed by list members, I forgot the searchable archives at hort.net. The question is, are the searchable archives that valuable to the group or not? Chris Lindsey says it would be hard to make the hort.net archives private, so it may be ncessary to simply pull them if the list is to maintain it's privacy.
I personally feel that a private, spam-free list is more important than searchability, but let's at least hear what the rest of you think about which you prefer - privacy or convenience.
