USDA hardiness maps

I have a question for authors out there who have included USDA hardiness
maps in their publications.

How do you do it? :) Let me explain...

I looked at the current USDA map at the National Arboretum Web site and
two major issues jumped out at me.

   1. The level of detail is now so great that a map of that size won't
really be useable in a book without zooming in, but that's not
possible because of the small image size (620x603 pixels).

   2. The small image provided isn't suitable for reprinting.
I noticed that Canada provides PDF and EPS files; why doesn't
       the USDA do that?

So if you want to include hardiness maps on your Web site or in documents,
how do you do it? The USDA and National Arboretum aren't providing
realistic tools for publishers.

I'm also curious if anyone knows where large poster-size maps can be
purchased and if the data sets used to create the maps are available.
I couldn't find anything in the list of ARS/USDA publications.

Thanks,

Chris
