Re: digital asset management
Andrew, et al,
I'm in the process of setting up a system for processing and cataloging
digital images using Photoshop (CS 3 is due for release soon), and
iView MediaPro (also in the process of being updated). It's actually a
little frustrating. I'm moving to a Mac, which isn't the problem....
Both programs are being updated, partly to work with the new chips
Apple is putting in its machines. Rather than buy now and have to pay
again to update later (at least in the case of Photoshop), I'm reduced
to holding off until the new program is out. Consequently I'm not
shooting the volume of photographs I would be...
All of this is in accord with an excellent book on digital asset
management called, "The DAM Book" by Peter Krogh. He lays out a
complete, logical and scalable system for working with your images.
Anyone who thought that digital was God's gift to photographers is
delusional. If you're doing this in any serious way, the time
commitment and learning curve are huge. So much for saving money on
film and development!
