Re: Celebrate garden gifts

Checked out your website. You have some good ideas there. But why not
make May 1st the bouquet day? Traditionally May Day (May 1st) was a day
when children would make up baskets of flowers and leave them on
someone's doorstep as a special surprise. As children we used to save
the little baskets that small fruits and now grape tomatoes are sold
in. We'd weave pretty ribbon through them, fill them with flowers, and
they were our "May Baskets," ready to be given away.
In Annapolis, Maryland, May Day is celebrated in the historic old
town with decorative bouquets that are hung on front doors. They are
the spring version of the Williamsburg Christmas decorations. A judging
body goes around, awarding ribbons to those deemed the best. Going to
see these front doors is a nice motive for taking a day trip to
Annapolis if you live within driving range (also their Chamber of
Commerce would welcome any articles about the custom).

I'm hoping you'll help me spread the word - how about writing something about Gifts From the Garden Month? If you do write about this please let me know.
