Re: Journal Register Company declares Bankruptcy


No, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Daily News and philly.com (and some  
other local publications) are owned by a private group of investors in the  
Philadelphia area. The papers used to be owned by the Knight Ridder  chain, which 
sold its media holdings all over the country in early  2006, mostly to 
McClatchy. The publisher insists nothing will change at the  papers (at least at the 
moment), and the Chapter 11 restructuring is aimed at  the huge debt incurred 
in buying the papers, not the day-to-day  operations.
 
The New Haven-based Journal Register Co. owns a number of papers in  the 
Philly suburbs -- the same general circulation area -- so it's a double blow  in 
one weekend for this region.

I don't  know if the Philly Inquirer is owned by the Journal Register 
Company...but  many others are...
