Re: Perennial Mistakes
Betty,
The perennial that I would never plant again...and can't get rid of...is
Cushion Spurge (Euphorbia polychroma).
My reasoning at the time was it's easy to grow and would thrive in my sandy
(rocky) dry soil. Few perennials thrive in this soil, most just tolerate it
Add that the site that is hilly and has tree roots. Well it thrived! Now it
is all over the place. I don't necessarily mind when plants wander. Plants
such as Sweet Woodroof (Galium adoratum) or perennial geraniums can spread
all over and they are still sweet. Cushion Spurge grows everywhere, showing
up in sun or shade, wet or dry soil...in pathways...and it isn't
sweet...kind of a boring yellow. I now pull it like a weed or banish it to
my barren hill that rejects most plants...and yup...it grows fine.
I would, and do plant either ground cover sedums or perennial geraniums
instead. If they spread, I'm ok with it.
