Re: Perennial Mistakes

I have no problems with E. polychroma. A nice mound and no seeds. E.
dulcis 'Chameleon' is a horrible weed. Seeds all over. So does bronze
fennel. Malodorous Houttuynia 'Chameleon' reverts to plain green and
spreads by what are (I assume) rhizomes and takes over square yards of
space where it's not wanted. Lysimachia clethroides, Centaurea
montana, Artemisia vulgaris 'Oriental Limelight,' Petasites,
Campanula rapunculoides...I could go on and on. And what about
Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm?' I have donated so many plants of that to public
gardens. Acres of them.
My readers complain about goutweed, lily-of-the-valley, sweet woodruff
and Corydalis lutea. I have no use for goutweed but don't mind the
others.
Those are some of the thugs. I have another long list of perennials
with feeble constitutions that have been widely touted but just didn't
work for me. Or that are consumed by fungus or slugs or plant bugs
before they bloom.
