Re: New York Times Goes Local Blogging

Sounds like a rebirth of the old stringer network but this time on the  
screen instead of the printed page.  Everything that goes around.....My  first 
newspaper work was as a stringer for the Times.  If they called me to  cover 
something I knew I would get paid even if the piece wasn't carried.   If I 
initiated the story payment was at their discretion.  Looks like the  difference is 
that now the Times stands to gain all the added value while the  providers 
appear to get nothing other than posting local news.  Let's see  if the locals get 
any bylines or residuals if their stories get picked up from  the local blog 
and moved to the print or online version of the paper.  I  suspect not.
