Hello all,
I've been working with Debra Prinzing, Scott Calhoun, Mary Ann Newcomer, and
Nan Sterman about the possibility of creating a website to help promote us
as speakers. If you are currently speaking as part of your career, we would
love it if you'd take a quick survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ggs to
let us know what you think of the idea. Please feel free to forward this
link on, post it to your blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc, and otherwise spread
the word.
There's more detail about how this site would work in the introduction to
the survey, but here's the short version:
GreatGardenSpeakers.com is founded by garden speakers to provide a way for
garden clubs, botanical gardens, and other venues to easily find and book
speakers. The goal is to raise our visibility as speakers and garden
writers, and to help us better connect with audiences. We've also noticed
that program chairs of garden clubs & other venues have a hard time finding
speakers to begin with, and we really see this as a service to them.
The site's unique featuers include:
1. Active, ongoing outreach to potential venues to help promote us all.
2. "User reviews" allow audience members to directly post testimonials for
each speaker.
3. "Coming to a City Near You" feature allows speakers to list cities
they're already traveling to. Visitors to the site can search by location
to find out what speakers are already coming through town, thus making it
possible to arrange several events in the same region and save on travel
expenses.
4. "Featured Listings" allow speakers to promote a new book or topic. They
could also advertise a "package deal" of a few speakers who want to promote
themselves together for a full-day symposium, panel, or other multi-speaker
program.
5. Membership is open to all speakers who speak to these venues, regardless
of their organizational or publisher affiliations.
There will be a small fee for speakers to participate, which covers the
monthly hosting costs for the website and some outreach or advertising to
venues. Our goal is to operate it on a break-even basis and to keep it
affordable. We may accept limited advertising, perhaps from garden book
publishers, to help cover our costs.
Speakers, please take the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ggs , and
feel free to include your comments and ideas.
Thanks,
Amy Stewart
