Re: GWL question on book prospectus
A few years ago, I worked with a writer -- not a garden writer -- who went through something like this with a university press. I think it was Indiana University. I thought it was odd at the time -- all my experience has been with conventional publishers -- but it seemed to be the norm for them. As I recall, it took them forever to move the book through their process.
The writer explained to me the reasoning behind the outside reviewers, but I've forgotten.
My advice (which is worth just what you've paid for it!) is to tell yourself that they have a certain amount of time to accept the proposal and move it forward, and if they don't, try a conventional publisher if your idea is one that isn't so specialized that only a university press would publish it.
