Re: Impatiens Downy Mildew
Lina,
We started to get heavy deer pressure around 2000/2001 (too much
development). After several years of year-round spraying, netting,
noise-emitting, and shocking deterrents, we bit the bullet and built a
deer exclosure around 25% of our 4-acre property. Because we're in the
woods and the house sits at the peak of a hill, the fencing doesn't look
as obnoxious as it might out in the open.
If you are going to go that way, don't mess with the thin stuff -- we
used Benner's deer fencing. It holds up well, but expect repairs from
time to time. This year Hurricane Sandy crashed trees on it in several
places (bent, but didn't break the fence), but we've had bears slash
through it, and infant fawns squeeze through chuck-holes. You have to
walk it from time to time, like any other fence, to check for damage and
make repairs.
It was worth the cost -- also allows us to let the dogs run.
Regards,
Lois
