<< Bravo, Carolyn, for bringing this up!  I'm afraid the internet has really 
 lulled us into thinking that spelling, grammar and syntax don't matter 
 anymore --- the only important thing is getting a thought across.  And once 
 we get sloppy, it's easy for that to creep into other forms of communication 
 -- ones where our readers are impacted. >>

Sorry but there's an error in the above remark.  it is incorrect to say 
"...ones where our readers are impacted."  The word "impacted" is an 
adjective and is generally used to describe something wedged between the 
jawbone and another tooth.  You have impacted wisdom teeth.  In the above 
sentence, the correct phrase would be "ones that have a great impact on our 
readers."  The word impact can be used as a noun meaning a forceful contact, 
collision or the force of  impression or operation of one thing on another 
(effect), or as a transitive verb meaning to fix firmly by packing or 
wedging, too press together, or to impinge upon.  
    A friend repeatedly corrected me when I made this mistake so it's one 
that I'm particularly sensitive to.  (to which I am particularly
