Andrew is correct. Many nurseries last year reported decreased sales of 
perennials at the wholesale level, a missing of sales targets or a 
pronounced slowing down of the sales curve.  The growth phase is very 
definitely over for perennial sales and the market is flattening 
out.  There will likely be a bit of a shakeout of some perennial nurseries 
(particularly the larger ones) although the smaller or more specialized 
growers should hold their niche markets.

The only quibble is whether I'd call it a *bust* or a flattening of demand.

My personal indicator is the shelf space given to gardening books and my 
local chain just reduced this again.  Reduced 70-80% in the past 18 
months.  *That* tells me all I need to know. ;-)
