Perfect English fanatics, have you heard this one?
A mother receives letters from her children and returns them with red 
marked corrections.  She does this with all her children's mail, until 
one day she receives no mail.  

The purpose of garden writing is, in my opinion, is the sharing 
information with your public, not a venue to show off your sterling 
English.  Your public will vary from their experiences, schooling, 
region, culture, background, and other differences.  

On public radio, a PHD talked about the added heat in our world.  He 
used terns and word the everyday person would never used.  The speaker 
used perfect English as most people would turn to each other at the end 
of it all, and say, "what did he say?"

     Did you know that there are more gardeners that didn't pass fourth 
grade than gardeners with PHD's are are?  I don't know how many of these 
folks I passed in life, which put on 'airs' about their environmental 
stand.  Then turn around, and have their south of the border under paid 
laborers to do all their dirty work.

I came from Chicago, the place with the world worst school system.  I 
dropped out of it by the seventh grade, knowing not much more than to 
sign my name.  They couldn't teach birds to fly or fish to swim, but 
they taught the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangle Banner very 
well.  I flunked out of the course of "ducking," which is why I had to 
leave.

     I had to teach myself on how to write.  I use the 'write as you 
speak' method.  If I could speak it smoothly, then it could be read 
smoothly also.  With the help of dictionaries and a primitive grammar 
and spell check, I will be all right.

Unless your writing is mighty clever or useful, your articles may be 
featured near and under a squatting dog.

Finally as the battle between style and substance continues, please 
remember one thing
 tell the Truth.  You will honor your readership by doing so.
