Hi!
       I live in zone 7a or 6 b and have a gorgeous climbing hydrangea on the North wall of my house.  It is only 50' from the Atlantic and can take gale force winds.  Starts to bloom in June and has a fine display all summer (flowers sort of dry on the vine).  Alas it is on a shingle roof and will probably take the roof with it in the next hurricane.  Great vine though.

You could also try hardy kiwis, but they need a very substantial trellis.
