Your wish may be fantasy, as you say. That task can be done with either 
Photoshop 6.0 or Illustrator 9.0, both by Adobe. Both are pricey, around $600 
each, but they will easily do what you want. Both also have steep learning 
curve, but I can talk you through it in Photoshop if you'll email me 
directly. There is a new, simplified version of Photoshop called Photoshop 
Elements, for around $100, which may allow you to draw an area and fill it 
with a color. Check them all out at ww.adobe.com. You may be able to download 
trial versions. These programs are available at the better computer stores in 
both PC and Mac versions.
By the way, enrolled college students usually can get these programs and much 
more at half price or less. Ask at your college book store.
