Re: [GWL]: Computer Graphics Question

This can be done with either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. Both
permit you to use layers. You can put all of your data in one master
image, hiding the layer(s) you don't want to have visible in each
save or you can duplicate your image and do one for each save. Once
you have your map image as your base layer, you can add a layer and
draw on it in Paint Shop Pro (more easily than in Photoshop) and then
select that section and hit the fill button to fill it with the color
of your choice. Then, pick save as a copy, select the file type and
location and go on to your next one, either by duplicating the file
or hiding the last layer and adding a new one for the next area you
need to deal with.

Both of these programs let you select odd shaped areas, so if what
you need follows the outline of one or more states, you can use that
tool instead of re-drawing the outline. If your area is a shape
that's not part of the map outline, you'll have to use one of the
drawing tools and draw it. Just remember to put each separate area
on a new layer so your base map remains untouched by anything you do.
If you screw up, both programs offer many layers of undo.

Use a separate layer as your image background color; it will remain
the same for all your separate image saves....or if you want
different background colors for different images, just add a new
layer, fill it with color and hide the old one.

If you haven't worked with layers, the above probably doesn't make
any sense, but you need a program that has them and once you get
that, all will become clear:-)
