[GWL]: Projecting advances

A tip for new writers --
Many publishers will cough up an advance equivalent to one to two year's
worth of royalty payments. So to guesstimate your advance you need
first to guestimate total sales for the first year or two. Then figure
the approximate book price and royalty rate. Then calculate the royalty
the book would earn in the first year or two. That number is about what
most large affluent publishers will pay you as an advance, if you or
your agent is clever enough to get it. A small publisher might pay
less, simply because they can't pay more.
