I'd always had it in my head that NY was zone 5. Just checked the USDA map, and NY City, along with most of the lower Hudson Valley (not to mention Long Island, Andrew), is listed as 6, with the balance of New York State 5.

All this shows, btw, is how over-relient we tend to be on the zone system, which actually is almost useless for meaningful growing information. NY City and Kentucky, for instance, are both zone 6. Anybody out there really think that season lengths, daylight conditions, and overall weather patterns are at all similar between those two?
