Nan -- probably the best place to start is Editor & Publisher's annual 
yearbook, which lists all newspapers throughout North America, including 
dailies and weeklies, contact info, etc. It's fairly reliable, but it 
wouldn't hurt to double check the phone numbers and contacts. People do move 
around and numbers change. Syndicates also are listed, but I don't remember 
if magazines are.

Another good directory of media is Bacon's.

Both should be available at a business section of the library or at a 
newspaper's library. I'm sure both are available on disk, too, but are 
expensive.
