Re: [GWL]: A New Rant

Yeah Jeff, you hit on a sore spot with me too.

Yes, plagiarism is alive and well when it comes to both good and bad
information. Poorly informed garden writers often copy and pass on the bad
info into perpetuity. While no one is perfect, it is still amazing how the
bad info keeps showing up. I'm sure there will be many others on the list
with examples.

I can't resist. . . here is my contribution to the rant:
All too often garden writers who live in areas having acid soil will write a
general appeal garden book (or nationally published column) telling the
world to add wood ashes to their soil.
Wait! We don't all have acid soil!!! For those of us who live in the Central
Rocky Mountains or High Plains, this is an awful suggestion. We already have
incredibly alkaline soil and wood ash only makes it worse! I have seen many
a poor novice gardener ruin their soil thanks to a GeoCentric garden writer
communicating with the world - rather than to their region.

Remember, if you are writing nationally, everyone does not live near you.
Please do your research.
