Re: [GWL]: A New Rant/wood ashes
When I was a young kid I remember clearly how a man on our block planted
two identical trees on the boulevard in front of his house. In one hole he
dumped a bunch of wood ashes and in the other, he did not. This was in
southern California, Lynwood, an area known for alkaline soils and high pH
levels.
Each year the tree with the wood ashes outgrew the one without. After
six or seven years, it was more than double the size.
My best guess? Perhaps additional calcium and potassium, but whatever, it
sure did convince everyone on the block, myself included.
Go figure.
