[GWL]: Usage and terminology

I have a couple questions here. I was taught that you could reference
recipes, information, etc. from another source as long as it was
properly credited. I recently got into a situation where I am being
syndicated and was told that I could only do that if it was under 50
words. What is correct? It is a recipe I was using if that makes any
difference and I did not use it word for word.

Also, has anyone ever heard of banana pups called pips? My new editor
said she had heard them called pips and thought pups was the wrong word.
She also said she thought pips was a plant term. I have never heard of
the word pips. Can anyone let me know the answer to this one?

Thanks,
Sheri
