I went to visit Pennock when I was writing the first edition of "The Ivy
Book" and had lunch with him in his beautiful dining room filled with
gorgeous porcelain.   But what really attracted my eye was a vine that grew
indoors, but whose roots were on the outside of the house. Pennock must have
planned it when he built the house (or added on the room) because there was
a hole cut through the wall or floor.  It was so long ago that I was there,
my memory might be fuzzy about details but as a garden writer, you might
want to check.
