RE: Re: websites

I'll throw in my 2 1/2 cents about personal web sites for writers. Any
benefit one gets from getting hits on the site by editors or publishers is
frosting on the cake. It seems to me that in the end, you still have to
market yourself to those editors and publishers. Only instead of simply
offering the proverbial one page bio, you offer them a view on this terrific
web site. You have to make the first effort and contact. But if it results
in their taking a minute or two to check out your site, you've accomplished
a lot more than the bio. First you make a better impression which means
they might remember you and second, you probably end up in their rolodex
file which is the goal.

Subject: Re: [GWL] Re: websites

Once, in a fit of nothing better to do, I plugged my name into a Google
search.

More than half the hits were for one of my books, which I'd co-authored with
my wife. Interestingly, when I plugged in her name, it didn't come up with
near as many hits for the same title.

I'll never fathom how search engines work. I mean, if they're picking up a
book under my name, and both our names are on the book, how come the same
engine doesn't pick them up under her name.

Is a puzzlement.
