Northeast Farm Communicators Association Announces Annual Contest Seeking the Best in Agricultural Writing, Photography and Broadcast Journalism

 

January, 21 2004—The Northeast Farm Communicators Association (NEFC) is now accepting submissions for its annual Nor’Easterner contest, which recognizes the best in writing, photography and broadcast media covering Northeast agriculture.

 

The Northeast Farm Communicators Association—which celebrated its twentieth anniversary this year—is an organization of professional reporters, writers, editors, broadcasters, public relations specialists and other agricultural communicators throughout New England, New York and the Mid-Atlantic states. The association’s annual contest is administered by Ed Slusarczyk of Ag Radio Network and judged by the journalism department of Utica College under the direction of Dr. Kim Landon.

 

Entries, which must have been produced in 2003, are due by February 10, 2004. Winners of individual categories will receive certificates and recognition at NEFC’s annual spring meeting. The “Farm Communicator of the Year,” as selected by the judges, wins a plaque and $500 donated by AgriMark dairy cooperative in Lawrence, MA.

 

The contest categories are:

Best on-farm feature: a) print; b) radio; c) TV/video

Best agricultural news story: a) print; b) radio; c) TV/video

Best column or editorial commentary: a) print; b) radio; c) TV/video

Best agricultural series: a) print; b) radio; c) TV/video

Best agricultural photo/image: all media printed form

Best agricultural news release: all media

Best agricultural newsletter: all media

Best one-time project: includes annual reports, brochures, directories, calendars, etc. (please include budget for project)

Farm Communicator of the Year (not an entry, based on the judge’s decision)

 

The contest costs $10 per entry (contestants may enter as many times as they wish). Nonmembers of NEFC must pay an additional $25, which covers the cost of annual membership to the organization. For more information about NEFC membership, please contact Chris Kimball-Peterson,
