RE: Discouraged by new book

Good question Sally, and I don't know the answer.  My feeling is that
any book written about the ecology of the garden before 1990 is no
longer useful because of the incredible advances we've made in the past
15 years in terms of understanding a bit better the magic of plants'
abilities to fend of insects and disease.  We know more about the
relationship of songbird populations and pest insect populations in the
garden.  We definitely know much much more about the impact of the soil
food web on plant health.  We know more about the long term impact of
acid rain and we are getting a bit more aware of how global warming may
be a player in the ecology of the garden.  My library is not as complete
as I might like, but I am not aware of any book written in the past 15
years discussing the ecology of the garden.  That is why I was so
excited to see this one by Timber Press in 2004.  I figured alllll
riiight!  It might be a book that is waiting to be written.

What book do you recommend if this one is not satisfactory?
