For myself, it depends.
If I want to find out something in the realm of science and
of reality, I would most certainly review scientific
literature. Not only that, I would footnote what I wrote
and give sources for any statements of fact that I made. I
prefer to have some credibility with my readers.
If I were writing about philosophy or religion or faith, I
wouldn't look to science for any answers. They do not fall
within science's purview.
