By the way, are really concerned about scientific
literature?  Are you prepared to wade through
mountains of literature over a period of days and
weeks?  Do people still think scientific literature
is the guiding light?
Research comes from many different places - people in the field (such as farmers), Extension Educators, and literature.  I have been told many times that books and/or the web will give direction, but to get the latest trends/info go to the university and find papers, contact the profs who wrote them (even papers are dated by the time they get peer review and printed).  You want cutting edge - go to the source and question them - but make sure you know the basics before you do that!  And wade thru literature - isn't that what we are for.  WE read the lit. understand it, then interpret it for the populus, who,if we do it properly, will get something from it.
