Re: A Potential Problem?

The complaint: too much information and no clear notion of what to
pay attention to. For example, on many PowerPoints you have the image
of a plant, frequently with text, on the screen and the speaker
speaking. Then there's that handout. What do you write down? What's
on the screen? What's being said? Something else?

And, you are right. The color of images in PowerPoint presentations
is very weak compared to slides.
I wonder if this is something to do with the fact that many university trained people (ie profs. extension agents, students etc) all have access to the program and have really not addressed the delivery side.

Personally, I only have the image, common name and latin name on the screen. In part because too many people interrupt with 'can you spell that' and I find that spelling a latin name without writing it down, somewhat of a problem sometimes. I try to make the images a replacement for what would be on the slide, not a replacement for what I am saying.
I have long since given up the illusion that I am a photographer, and although I am taking a few courses to improve, I will not get the 'oh wow' effect.  So for me it is simpler and more flexible to use the digital.  I might also add that some of the images would not be available via the mass market - such as remnant Roman fishponds in the local fallen down castle (Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leics).  This is one of those images that is very relevant to presentations on historical gardens.
