Re: literary agents


Forgive my naivité, but what makes you (all) want/need an agent  
instead of shopping a book idea yourself?

I can think of several reasons (an agent has better connections, an  
author might dislike making the actual sales pitch, an author might  
have limited time), but as someone who worked with an agent  
constantly in my first career, I haven't felt the need or desire to  
do so yet as a writer, so I'm curious.  Is it worth it?
