Re: Nikon vs Canon

Debbie,

Good luck. That's a Ford, Chevy or Toyota question. It truly is a matter of
personal opinion. They both make great cameras. Canon has taken the lead in
sales due to their huge marketing push that began in the early nineties.
Simply Canon did it by giving the professional photo writers any gear they
wanted free. With that action, plus a huge ad campaign, they pushed Nikon
out of market dominance in 35 mm SLR cameras. In the 70's and 80's when I
would go to a photo workshop 8 of 10 cameras of choice were Nikon. That
reversed by the mid-nineties in favor of Canon.

Try this link for the most unbiased opinions and thorough reviews of
technical stuff but they include other information that a practical user
really cares about too.

They review all levels of gear, consumer to professional.

If you have a ton of existing lens of one favorite that might sway you.
However, check to see if they can be used on the new digital SLR's. In many
cases they can be used but you won't get all the potential features to work.
Canon is the worst about obsoleting their lens systems.
