At the other end of the hardiness spectrum, take Quebec. Larry Hodgson  
claims that due to their short summer of long days, coupled with very cold but  
reliably snow-covered winters, combinations often are found flowering together  
that would never do so in "milder" climes such as here in  Pennsylvania.
Catriona, I'm sorry the Flower Show offends you. I love it. IMHO,  to 
actively discourage your readers from indulging in this wonderful  late-winter color 
fix would be a greater disservice than any exhibit  designer could inflict 
with a botanical oxymoron.
Larry, am I quoting you with some degree of accuracy?
