Re: adaptive tools

Kate,

Two products I use all of the time are the CobraHead weeder and a wide scoop
from Oxo. With those two, I can handle my container plants with ease,
despite a poor grip and arthritis. I use the CobraHead to remove spent
plants, work new organic matter into the potting mix, and make holes for new
plants, as well as for removing the inevitable weeds that get into old
raised beds and containers. I use the scoop for removing spent potting mix
and adding new from bags of mix that are too heavy to lift.

The CobraHead is the one tool that I use most in the "real" garden too. It's
long enough so that I can sit and weed, but short, lightweight and
well-balanced enough not to strain wrist, hand and elbow.

I also use Joyce Chen scissors and Florian ratchet cut pruners. Wolfgarten
has some great, lightweight pruners too. They're sized for different hands
and even though I have large hands, the "small" size is perfect and
lightweight enough for inflamed hands and is usually in my back pocket.

Hope this helps.

d
