Re: New Year's Day Plant count

>From the mid-West in southern Indiana (but not so far south as to find palm
trees along the Ohio river)
Soil is frozen in the garden, temps are in the teens and the wind chill
makes it about minus 5 with no snow cover.
Only blooms are on Hellebore foetidus. Bright green over dark olive
green is not bad when all else is some shade of brown. My favorite color is
the bed of creeping wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens). Dark, rich green
leaves covering the pine needle mulch with scarlet red, waxy, berries in
abundance. Cardinal Candy vibrunum still had balls of clustered, well,
cardinal red berries. The cedar wax wings has stripped the deciduous hollies
of their berries. Colorado blue spruce Hoopsi with red twig dogwood and gold
twig dogwood is not bad either.
It will warm up late this week and by mid week next there will be
hellebore an perhaps snowdrops in bloom.
