Re: California vs Florida climate zones

Hey, the Florida people are suffering, too! We lost everything we couldn't
cover adequately last night--and single layers of plastic or row cover
didn't do it. As well, I just came back from the Farmers Market where people
were comparing notes on what they were able to save and what they lost. One
fellow had a truck full of satsumas (a type of orange) that he picked
yesterday. He wouldn't sell less than a half bushel at a shot; that's how
desperate he is to get rid of them.

Friends who live in the Tampa Bay area and who grow strawberries had the
sprinklers on but say they lost a huge number of blooms anyway. It's the
same story up and down the state. It was a nasty, nasty freeze because we
had high winds with it. So I sympathize with your 4 below--that's why I no
longer live in the NE--as well as all the Florida growers who just got
knocked out by this cold snap.
