Re: Those who give real estate talks
Sheri et al,
I have given several talks to realtors in the past, and have another scheduled this spring. I have always been hired by large firms who offer a morning symposium to their agents...kind of an in-house education thing. They pay my speaking fee for a 3 hour symposium, which is twice what I charge for a one hour talk to a garden club. I talk to them about the most common gardening questions I get (how to prune hydrangeas), typical problems that home landscapers have in this area, and typical ways that people go wrong. All of this contributes to their body of knowledge which makes them more valuable to their clients. Some of the ways people go wrong can also make properties less desireable - sheared junipers that are more bare stem than foliage for example. I finish with discussion of how to deal with problem areas - quick fix designing.
To sell this symposium idea to realtors you need to tell them why it is advantageous for their agents to attend such a seminar.
As a by product of these seminars I have sold my books to real estate offices who give them as gifts to the people who buy a new house from them.
all the best,
C.L.
