Re: Organic Roses and Flowers
Thanks for the link on roses, Daryl. This is the sort of thing I knew in the
abstract, that they were using dangerous pesticides on cut flowers in
Ecuador and other South American sites, but this article points out the
tremendous severity and scale of the problem. And it points to one solution
to the problem, certification of cut flowers grown organically, whether in
this country or abroad.
When floristry is organic there's the chance that a tiny spot or blemish
will occur which makes the undefended flower unsalable in today's market.
Here's where sophistication and education can come in -- small natural
blemishes can be shown to be signs of health and beauty -- if we help teach
our readers that this is so.
