Subject: Release date

Dan, After ten books, I find I have less control over release date than
almost any other aspect of my contract. The best I've been able to do is
have the pub date moved up by a month or two so I can display it at the GWA
annual symposium book fair (the best PR venue I know) or move the release
date from March to Jan. before the series of spring flower shows where I
can also plug a new book.
Although autumn (holiday gifts), or spring (gardening start-up) are
always cited as the preferred seasons, at a symposium of the Author's Guild
in '06, recommendations were strong for an OFF season pub date because
editors and reviewers have less to write about, so the probabilities are
better for YOUR book.
