Re: Master Gardeners
It seemed almost from the time I came into our family seed company I
heard little knocks on MGs. However, we moved to another house in
our town and I had a rose I loved so went to the extension office for
information on grafting roses. They took my name and phone number and
said someone would get in touch. I had a phone call, a retired Ph.D
who was a former horticulturist with the USDA and grew roses as a
hobby was soon at our house. He'd already gone to the old one and
taken a few cuttings. Husband Keane and I then had a lesson on bud
grafting. I was wowed!
I think the Master Gardener program is absolutely remarkable and it
is a "continuing education" process. As they stay with the program
their expertise and range of interest develops and they purchase
seeds, plants, books and magazines. Here in The Corvallis/Albany
Oregon area where I live and work the MG training program filled fast
and early this year and Master Food Preserving is booming after
struggling to get enrollees only a few years ago.
Eventually I became an Oregon MG and encountered information that was
new to me and some with which I wasn't sure I agreed, happens all the
time.
Love you guys, but only fair to recognize volunteer MGs as some of
our best audiences and customers.
