Re: Speaking of magazines
The fact is that most magazines are having a very
very tough time and paying writers and
photographers is an easy thing to cut and replace
with unpaid "citizen journalism".
The editors of two British magazines have
recently been instructed from on high not pay
anyone more than £140 (c$210) for any feature or
any length. Unfortunately this not only means
they'll have to fire their most notable writers -
but they'll be dealing with law suits because the
thoughtless accountants didn't bother to mention
this new instruction until after the editors had
commissioned their top writers for the new year.
Doh!
My question is: What is the GWA doing to help
writers and photographers in a market which is
now so very different?
