school gardens

Did anyone else go apoplectic like me seeing the current article,
"Cultivating Failure" in Atlantic Magazine, that schoolyard gardening
is a failure ?!

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/201001/school-yard-garden

I suspect the author is not a parent and/or buys into the sorry
assumption that children just need more academics to learn how the
world works and their place in it. Apparently the author did not
interview any children or teachers. I suppose controversy sells but
having been a garden instructor and having my own children benefit
from a fully integrated gardening program in their school years, no
one can tell me that gardening is a waste of resources.

Argghh - the narrow mindedness . . . from the same mentality, no
doubt, of those who believe standardized testing has standards we
should want our children to aspire to...
