Re: lawns and global warming

The best answer has nothing to do with gardening. It is simply that we, as a species, must stop our infernal reproductive activity. There are already too many people in the world, and it will get even worse if something isn't done.

Which brings up an interesting question. In at least some parts of the
ountry, when golf courses close, they are replaced by housing developments.
n, for example, a 50-acre former golf course, you might now have 16
cMansions on 3 acre lots, or 50 smaller houses on 1-acre lots, 150 even
maller
ouses on 1/3 acre lots, or 1,000 or more townhouses, with lots of paved
oads.

o, the question is this: Which is better (or, rather, less bad): a golf
ourse with all its liabilities? Or a housing or townhouse development
ith the attendant paved surfaces, heading/cooling systems, their own water
equirements, automobiles, requirements for new schools and other buildings,
tc? I don't pretend to know the answer, but it would make an interesting
tudy, if it hasn't already been done.

And, perhaps more to the point, Judy, what about golf courses?
