Re: lawns and global warming

Which brings up an interesting question. In at least some parts of the
country, when golf courses close, they are replaced by housing developments.
On, for example, a 50-acre former golf course, you might now have 16
McMansions on 3 acre lots, or 50 smaller houses on 1-acre lots, 150 even smaller
houses on 1/3 acre lots, or 1,000 or more townhouses, with lots of paved
roads.

So, the question is this: Which is better (or, rather, less bad): a golf
course with all its liabilities? Or a housing or townhouse development
with the attendant paved surfaces, heading/cooling systems, their own water
requirements, automobiles, requirements for new schools and other buildings,
etc? I don't pretend to know the answer, but it would make an interesting
study, if it hasn't already been done.

And, perhaps more to the point, Judy, what about golf courses?
